JAISALMER
Jaisalmer is also known as “The Golden Cityâ€. It is one of the largest districts in Rajsthan, which is situated 575 km away from Jaipur. Once it was also known as “Jaisalmer Stateâ€. According to current map, jaisalmer is bounded by Bikaner on north, by Indian boarder on west and south-west, by Barmer and Jodhpur on south and by Jodhpur and Bikaner on east. Jaisalmer district is a part of Great Indian Desert, i.e. Thar Desert. The whole located on the ridge of yellowish sandstone, and fort looks like a crown over the hill. This fort contains many of Jain temple and palaces inside, many of houses and temples are finely sculptured. Jaisalmer was founded by Maharawal Jaisal Singh, a Rajput king in 1156 AD, jaisalmer is named after his name. Jaisalmer means “The Hills Fort of Jaisalâ€.
